Parade Details – Saturday 12th July 2014
Assembly Point – Dairy Hall Playing Fields
Assembly Time – 11.00am
Each Private Lodge should disembark from their buses at South Street, Newtownards at the
entrance to Dairy Hall playing fields (this is situated opposite Ards Bowling Club) marked (A)
on map. Lodges and bands should not parade at this point as it is important that the road is
kept clear to allow for the free-flow of buses. All Lodge members and bandsmen should enter
Dairy Hall and go to their assembly point marked (C, D & E) on the map. Dairy Hall will act as
reception and demonstration field - all the necessary facilities such as toilets, rest area,
catering etc. will be on site. Newtownards District Parade Marshals will be at this location to
assist you.
Parade
Newtownards Orange District No. 4 will form up approximately 11.15am at the Orange Hall,
Mary Street and parade at 11.30am via – Mary Street, Francis Street, Doctors Lane, High
Street, South Street to John Street. Once the end of Newtownards District enters John Street
the parade will pause until 12 mid-day.
At this point the visiting Districts of Upper Ards No.11, Holywood District No. 14 and Bangor
District No.18 will be formed up and ready to fall in behind Ards District. Upper Ards District will
form up in Dairy Hall playing fields and parade up to the traffic lights at South Street, Court
Street and John Street marked (B) on the map and be ready to fall in behind the Newtownards
District as the tail end of the parade enters John Street.
The main parade will commence at 12 mid-day sharp and make its way through Newtownards
via the following route: - John Street, Donard Avenue, Circular Road, Mill Street, Frederick
Street, Regent Street, Francis Street, Windmill Row, East Street, Zion Place, Upper Movilla
Street, Queens Street, Greenwell Street, New Road, Portaferry Road, Court Street, High
Street, South Street to Dairy Hall – the parade will enter via the South Street entrance and is
marked (A) on map. Each District should make its way to their designated place and disperse
– marked on map (C, D & E).

Car Park
Only official vehicles with the necessary permits that take part in the procession will be
permitted into Dairy Hall playing fields as there is limited parking (close to the Newtownards
Silver Band Hall) – this will be strictly enforced. Permits can be obtained from District
Secretary Bro. Craig Bothwell by calling Tel 07718718344. All other vehicles not taking part in
the procession are requested to use the numerous car parks that are available through-out the
town centre as shown on map and it is important that those using the public car parks arrive
early to ensure obtaining a parking space.
Demonstration Field
The Demonstration Field will be an Alcohol Free Zone anyone in procession of alcohol will
not be permitted into the field and may have their alcohol confiscated by the PSNI - As well as
the usual food outlets, various stalls, bouncy castle etc, a platform has been set up where at
2.45pm there will be a musical performance by “The Thompson Brothers” – a traditional
gospel group, following that, a Religious Service will take place at 3.30pm and conclude at
approximately 4.15pm. It is important to stress that NO bands will be permitted to play their
instruments whilst the service takes place and all Worshipful Masters are responsible for the
conduct of their bands.

Trader’s Stalls
All traders and stall holders will be situated at the far end of Dairy Hall playing field adjacent
to the John Street / Donard Avenue entrance & exit marked (F) on the map.
We would like to remind you that the very popular Conway Square Market is on and many
local town centre shops, cafés and restaurants are open for business.
Return Home Parade
The ‘Parade Home’ will reassemble at the conclusion of the platform proceedings and leave
the Demonstration Field via the South Street entrance / exit marked (A) on the map at
approx. 4.30pm. The parade will be led by Newtownards District No. 4, followed by Upper
Ards No.11, Holywood No. 14 and Bangor No. 18. The parade will make its way through
Newtownards town centre via: - South Street, Mill Street, Gibson’s Lane, Regent Street,
Francis Street – once the head of the parade reaches the Francis Street roundabout marked
(G) on the map, the host district will split ranks and the remaining 3 districts will pass through
the rank, Upper Ards will turn right - parading down Georges Street, New Road to their
busses, situated on the Portaferry Road at point (H) on the map – Holywood and Bangor
Districts will turn left and parade via Zion Place onto the Bangor Road, where their buses will
be situated just past the BP filling station at point (I) on the map.
Once the 3 visiting Districts pass through, Newtownards District will reform and parade from
Francis Street, then Georges Street, New Road, Portaferry Road, past War Memorial at
Castle Street, High Street to the Square. Following the prize giving and the playing of the
National Anthem the parade will disperse.
Other Information
The PSNI will be operating a ZERO TOLERANCE approach to the drinking of alcohol in
public places – so all Brethren and members of the Bands are reminded that those in
pocession of alcohol may have it confiscated by the PSNI. Also, all Brethren are to comply
with the instructions of the PSNI and Parade Marshals on the day in order to make all the
plans run as smoothly as possible.

Chief Steward
Bro. Alex McGimpsey will be the Newtownards District Chief Marshal on the day and he can
be contacted on Mobile:07856063303 In keeping with legislation, each District is expected to
have two District Marshal’s - one at the front and one at the rear of their District, also, each
private Lodge and band is expected to provide their own marshal who are responsible for the
conduct of their Lodge and/or Band on parade. Any issues must be reported to the Chief
Steward who will deal with all issues brought to his attention (UHF radios will be supplied for
use by the District Marshals).
Medical Provisions
St. John’s Ambulance will provide medical cover throughout the day and will have adequate
resources available along the parade route and in the Reception / Demonstration Field.
Charity
Newtownards District’s chosen charity this year is the Northern Ireland Alzheimer's Society.
They will have a stall in the demonstration field and will also be carrying out a street collection
during the parade — Please give generously.
