News @ Six Volume 17, Issue 11 Georgia Sport Aviation EAA 6, Inc. November 2014 The President’s Corner Inside this issue: President’s Corner 1 Meeting Notice 1 Meeting Minutes 2 Upcoming Events 2 We lost Charlie Wilson this month and his service was today November 8. I have known Charlie mostly through the EAA Chapter 6 and my first involvement was when I took over the Newsletter Editor position from Charlie. My interaction was always positive with Charlie and I believe we turned out to be friends. Attending the service today was a real eye opener for me as I also saw a younger Charlie that lived life to the max. As pilots we always see and do more things than non pilots but Charlie did it all. Family was always most important. It was also so very important for Charlie to see the Stinson come back to Georgia and we have Mr. Lee Watson to thank for that. Our Meeting this month will be mostly to get ready for the Christmas Party. Lee has agreed on Dec 13 and we have a lot to get ready. As we all remember, Charlie always baked the potatoes and grilled the steaks. Lee has agreed to do the Potatoes but we need a Grill Master. I hear that someone has volunteered but to me right now it is only rumor. I hope we can make it fact at the meeting next week. Chapter Officers: President: Dan Wood Richard, Sharon, Pilots, Ground Crew, Volunteers: an absolute awesome job with the YE Rally. When I think we can't do any better, somehow it happens. I understand that we flew 42 YE's and 17 Adults. I also understand that more might have been flown on the following Sunday and that there is a plan in the works for an Aviation group at East Coweta Middle School. We are doing so very well but let's not get complacence and continue to keep it safe! See you Saturday Dan Vice President: Jim Madden Meeting Notice Treasurer: Danny Rexroad The monthly chapter meeting for November will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 10am in the upstairs meeting room in the FBO building at KCCO (Newnan-Coweta County Airport). Secretary, Newsletter & Looking ahead—the annual Chapter 6 Christmas Party has been scheduled for Saturday, December 13. Standby for more details after this Saturday’s meeting. Web Editor: Chris Jones YE Coordinators: Richard & Sharon Marr Presentation Coordinator: Open ‘the Eagle has landed’…. Well, sort of... In case you didn’t hear—because the news channels are more focused on what’s going on in Hollywood than ‘real’ news these days— the European Space Agency successfully landed a spacecraft on a comet some 310 million miles away from Earth on Wednesday, November 12. This is historic news, as it is the first time a lander has made it to the surface of a comet. In case you don’t have time to do your own web search for information about the event, here is a link to get you started: http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/nov/12/ rosetta-mission-philae-historic-landing-comet Page 2 News @ Six Meeting Minutes The October monthly meeting was replaced by the Fall Young Eagles rally. The event was originally scheduled for October 11, but low ceilings prevented any flying from taking place. Instead, the event volunteers welcomed the Young Eagles and their families out onto the ramp to get up-close and personal with the aircraft. The rain-date for the rally was October 25, which turned out to have near-perfect flying weather. As Dan mentioned in his President’s Corner, over 40 Young Eagles were flown. Many thanks to all volunteers that helped complete yet another successful and SAFE EAA Chapter 6 Young Eagles Rally.
