Founded in 2003 as a network of Muslim activists and volunteers, we have tirelessly responded to civil rights challenges facing our community since 9/11. We aspire to reach across boundaries of race, ethnicity, gender, class and religious identity to build safe, supportive and civically engaged communities free from discrimination. Our name indicates that we are inspired by the Islamic principle of Shura or mutual consultation, to ensure that all voices are represented at the table when decisions are made.
