Following the announcement of Hitachi’s global merger with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, newly formed Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Africa (MHPSA) announces the appointment of Stephen Moore (42) as Chief Executive Officer of MHPSA with immediate effect. Zambia-born Moore – a BSc Honors graduate from the University of Warwick – was previously Chief Financial Officer for UK-based Doosan Power Systems (formerly Mitsui Babcock), and has more than 15 years of experience in the power industry. Key priorities for Moore at MHPSA are to: • take forward to completion MHPSA’s cornerstone contracts, notably those associated with South African power utility Eskom’s Medupi and Kusile power station projects; • drive business development and sales in the thermal power space in South and southern Africa; and • oversee the development of the company into a local business with significant sustainable local presence by strengthening the management team and staff. Executive transfers from Hitachi Power Africa (HPA) to MHPSA include: • Bjoern Lahm (34) as Chief Financial Officer; • Bongani Mthembu (48) as Chief Corporate Officer; and • Thomas Brown (58) as Chief Operating Officer. Lahm is a graduate of the European Business School in Germany and previously Head of Corporate and Subsidiary Control for German-based Hitachi Power Europe (HPE).
