Kia ora. It’s coming to the end of 2014, which means we are
starting to look towards 2015 and senior camps. The Year 7/8
children are heading to Wainui and the Year 5/6 children are
off to Arthur's Pass. The dates for these are 25-27 February.
Forms will be coming home with the senior children shortly
which will give you the option to come along and help.

Stands Tall Giraffe
NBC has been asked to design a giraffe to show the values of
our school. The giraffe is part of the Christchurch Stands Tall
campaign. This is the process of giving the giraffe a
makeover, which all children at NBC have been involved
with.
• First we painted the giraffe plain white.
• Once it dried, we painted
over the white with blue
until just lower than its
head.
• After the blue dried, we
placed paper cutouts of
footsteps all over the blue
paint and then we outlined
the footsteps with white
gel pens.
• Once we coloured the
footsteps in with white
paint, we did a pencil

All Saints/All Souls
All Saints Day on 1 November is an important and significant day
in the Catholic Church. It marks the month in which we focus on
the Communion of Saints; people both in heaven and on earth.
All Souls Day on 2 November is the day when we remember our
loved ones who have died.
To honour these two occasions, we will be including a liturgy
within our Assembly next Friday, 31 October, and would love you
to join in prayer with us.
Sharee Connor (DRS)

Condolences
The school community extends its sympathy to Saskia, Savannah
and Isaac Schmelz and their family. The children’s grandmother
passed away recently.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine
upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
*Ask your child what their “toe print” is!
Room 4 students are exploring the features of a giraffe.
The giraffe skin reminds
me of a sort of puzzle.

track for the senior pupils, and in the Domain and courts for
the juniors. Please come and cheer on your children. If you
can help with events, recording or running, please see me or
Jo.

My First Week at NBC
My first week at New Brighton Catholic was an exciting and fun
experience for me. It was hard to move from my Grandma’s and
Grandpa’s home in Samoa, but everyone here has made me feel
especially welcome. Thank you for that, it has helped a lot. Coming
here was really fun for me because it has been like a new start in
life. My mum is having a hard time because she misses me, but she
is happy that I am getting an education here at NBC. I have enjoyed
playing basketball with the Y8s and learning how to write an
acrostic poem in Room 1. Yesterday I read a buddy prayer with
Ah-Li and felt right at home. I know I am in good hands. Thank
you to teachers and children.
