Dr. Laura D. Hirshbein
Dr. Hirshbein is an assistant professor
in the Department of Psychiatry at the
University of Michigan. Dr. Hirshbein
received her MD from the University of
Michigan and her PhD from the
Institute of the History of Medicine at
Johns Hopkins University. Dr.
Hirhsbein is both a practicing
psychiatrist and medical historian, and
her research is focused on historical
perspectives of psychiatry and
pscyhiatric illness. Her publications
include “Biology and Mental Illness: A
Historical Perspective” and American
Melancholy: Constructions of
Depression in the Twentieth Century.
