Laura Peh, harp
Hong Kong-born Singaporean harpist Laura Peh is currently a finalist on the
Bachelor of Music (Honours) programme under the tutelage of Daphne Boden at the
Royal College of Music, London. Laura started learning the harp at the age of nine
and was educated at Methodist Girls’ School (Singapore). Whilst in school, Laura
was an avid triathlete, Music Elective Programme student, violinist in the String
Ensemble and harpist in the Singapore National Youth Orchestra. At the age of
fifteen, she was admitted to the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris (France), where
she studied with Isabelle Perrin.
Laura has won prizes at several competitions: Singapore-Malaysia Harp Competition
2010 (Advanced Division), Thailand International Harp Competition 2009 and the
Elias Parish-Alvars International Harp Competition 2008 (UK). She was also a finalist
at the Wales International Harp Competition 2010 (Under-19 Division).
Laura has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at prominent venues across
Europe and Asia – Salle Gaveau, Salle Cortot, Jean-Jacques Henner National
Museum (Paris, France); Wotton House (UK); Eden Hall, Esplanade and Victoria
Concert Hall (Singapore). Past engagements include the Asian Harp Festival (Hong
Kong), the Singapore Island Country Club’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations, the
Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race Ball (Singapore) and the « Debussy in
Paris » Conference (Paris, France).
Laura believes in giving back to society and has performed at hospitals, homes for
the disadvantaged, care centres and charity events since she was a young musician,
and was featured in Youthful Musing, a charity CD for The Community Chest
(Singapore). She also strongly supports education outreach and has assisted in
workshops for young children, families and the disabled.
In her spare time, Laura enjoys visiting museums, learning about different cultures,
taking leisurely walks in parks and mulling over life.
