FRENCH PROGRAM
Beginners:
Students without Grade 12 French or without
previous knowledge of the language should
take FREN 1152 and 1154(Introductory
French). Please contact the Department if you
need help deciding whether Introductory
French is the correct level for you and if you
should start with 1154 and skip 1152, especially if you have some French language experience.
Others:
Typically, students with Grade 12 French register for FREN 1190 (Français) or
FREN 1200 (French 1). The courses are quite
similar but 1190 is taught entirely
in French, whereas 1200 is taught in French
and English, according to students’ needs.
The prerequisite for most second year
courses is a grade of C or better in 1190 or C+
or better in 1200. The prerequisite for entrance to the Major or Minor is a grade
of C or better in 1190 or 1200. In most
cases, the prerequisite for third year
courses is a grade of C or better in any
second year course.
We offer a Major, Minor, Advanced and
Honours programs in French. The
requirements for the Major and Minor are
quite flexible, with each requiring at least one
course in language and one course in literature at the second and third year levels.
Please contact us for details.
