Adams says: My expectations are the
same regardless of how we did in
preseason. We expect to win all games
and qualify for the state playoffs and win
championships. That’s the goal every
year. We’ve got a young football team
this year, complicated by the fact we’ve
had a number of injuries throughout the
preseason at varying times.
Early on we lost two backup linemen,
that hurt our depth. Our two centers are
out, hopefully they’ll be back this week. That just kind of hurt our continuity up front, that was one area
we felt would be a strength. Our depth been hurt. We’re still pretty good up there but we’re kind of
shuffling some people in and around and it’s gonna hurt our continuity.
We have good skill players. They’re all young, very inexperienced. We build our team around our
defense and we feel we have a good defense. We’re very fast on defense and very excited about our
potential on defense.
We’re young we’re inexperienced; that’s the key. My three major concerns going into camp were
immaturity, our inexperience and our state of conditioning. We didn’t do a very good job with that. Not
the job I expected anyway. We ran the heck of out them, so we’re in great shape there.
Experience will come in time, we gotta be patient with that. Their athleticism compensates with that,
the immaturity we’re still dealing with. They’ve done OK. The kids are focused. They still have
moments where they have breakdowns. I just hope they don’t cost us football games.
On offense we’ll be back in the I formation and we’re gonna try to be balanced with pass run,
absolutely. We have some talented weapons. We’re young and inexperienced, (receiver) Zak Spence
is the only guy at the skill positions that saw a lot of time last year.
Our quarterbacks are both new. Mike Malagrino is only a sophomore but showed us last year he can
handle it as the JV quarterback. He’ll be our guy. And Alex Episcopo had a really good preseason,
we’re confident in his abilities. Even though he’s number two he will play a little bit. He has his
strengths and Mike has his strengths.
Our defensive line has kind of been hit hard by injuries. Linebacker is the strength of our team. Jean
Pierre Lewis is our Will linebacker. He’s a two-year starter and played special teams on our
championship team. Trott Montina , Ricky Roman and Kenson Belleus played quite a bit last year.
Jeffrey Dorvil is returning to us after a year off from ACL surgery. Jeff is really, really playing well.
Our secondary was hit hard with three seniors graduated. We’re still experimenting with a lot of kids.
The numbers out are incredible, we have 153 kids out. We’re not rebuilding, kids are practicing on
one side of the ball. We’re not taking round pegs and putting them in square holes. We play a lot of
kids when we get them on the field. We give kids experience. We’re not gonna change that
philosophy. We’ll continue to do business and continue to be successful.
