SUBJECT: Preferred Instrument Approach Procedure (IAP) for Macau International Airport
1. Effective from 06 February 2014, the ILS and LLZ approaches of Macau International Airport were
renamed with a suffix z, y, x, i.e. ILS z RWY 34, ILS y RWY 34, ILS x RWY 34 and LLZ/DME z
RWY 16, LLZ/DME y RWY 16, LLZ/DME x RWY 16.

According to ICAO Doc 8168, the preferred approach is identified using the “z” suffix. Therefore it
is expected that ILS z RWY 34 and LLZ/DME z RWY 16 is the preferred IAP.
3.
Pilots are required to request non-preferred IAP from ATC while they are conducting the Standard
Instrument Arrival (STAR) procedure. Otherwise they are expected to conduct the preferred IAP (i.e.
ILS z RWY 34 or LLZ/DME z RWY 16) without further clarification.
