VdeV Endurance Series – Round 5 – Challenge Endurance Proto – Motorland 9 Hours, 29-­‐30 August 2014 Pole posiDon and Gentlemen Drivers double for the Ligier JS 53 EVO at Motorland! Onroak AutomoDve and its Ligier JS 53 EVOs got the season off to a successful start aQer the summer break. On the Motorland Aragon circuit, the Graff entry clinched the first pole posiDon for the sports prototype from the Magny-­‐Cours workshop, aQer which OAK Racing and Mornay Motorsport scored a double in the Gentlemen Drivers’ classificaDon in the Motorland Aragon 9 Hours, the fiQh round of the VdeV Series Proto Endurance Challenge. This weekend the teams went to the magnificent Motorland Aragon circuit for the resumpWon of the Endurance Proto Challenge. ABer two 1-­‐hour free pracWces during which the 29 sports prototypes refined their setups, they all went back out for a hotly-­‐contested qualifying session. The Graff team’s no. 29 Ligier JS 53 EVO of Eric Trouillet and Yann Clairay set the fastest Wme on the 5,344-­‐km Spanish circuit in 1m 57.434sec to take pole and first place on the grid. Unfortunately, aBer around three hours racing Franck Crédit : Onroak AutomoWve Gauvin, who was holding on to fourth place in the no. 29 Ligier JS 53 EVO, was punted off into a gravel trap by another car. ABer a pit stop to repair the damage the Graff rejoined, but could not do any beFer than 18th at the flag aBer two more stops because of technical problems probably caused by the collision. Despite this disappointment the Ligier CN was rewarded at the finish of the 9-­‐hour race thanks to OAK Racing and Mornay Motorsport, which had three cars in the top 10 and scored a double in the Gentlemen Drivers’ classificaWon. ABer Paul and Patrick Lafargue had an encouraging qualifying session bagging seventh place, OAK Racing clinched victory in the Gentlemen Drivers’ classificaWon. The Lafargue pairing and Jean-­‐François Yvon, who was backing them up this weekend in the no. 17 Ligier JS 53 EVO, crossed the line in fiBh place. Pierre Sancinena and Pierre and Paul PeWt in the no. 23 Mornay Motorsport Ligier JS 53 EVO joined them on the second step of the podium aBer a fantasWc race. ABer making a great start which took them from 14th to 6th place the crew then suffered an alternator problem and dropped back to 25th before the end of the first hour’s racing. Their speed and consistency helped them fight their way back up to sixth place in the remaining eight hours. Crédit : H. Laroche The second car entered by OAK Racing started from 19th place on the grid and saw the flag in eighth spot. ABer their usual steady race Frédéric and Nicolas Da Rocha backed up by Guy Lacroix this weekend finished only 14 seconds outside the top 3 in the Gentlemen Drivers’ classificaWon, but moved up into second place in the overall classificaWon of this category. The fiBh Ligier, the no. 36 JS 53 EVO run by the English team RLR Msport, driven by Kelvin Fletcher, Mike Simpson and Lars Viljoen had a more difficult weekend. ABer a tough Wme in qualifying Fletcher made a very good start and got up into sixth place in the Ligier JS 53 EVO by the end of the first hour. The team’s race was then spoilt by technical problems, in parWcular with the electric harness, and RLR Msport finally made it to the finish in 21st place. ABer the Spanish weekend despite a few upsets and disappointments the very posiWve outcome for Onroak AutomoWve was boosted by another win. A few hours and several thousand kilometers away from Motorland Aragon, the CraB-­‐Bamboo Racing team gave Onroak AutomoWve victory in the CN category in the Fuji 3 Hours in the Asian Le Mans Series. The next round of the VdeV Proto Endurance Challenge on 12th October will be a very special one for Onroak AutomoWve as the Ligier JS 53 EVOs will be racing in the Magny-­‐Cours 6 Hours, only a stone’s throw away from the workshops in which they were built!
