AKC registered dogs can also be shown in Canada without an ERN as "LISTED" for a fee and you can apply for an ERN after the show is held, but ONLY dogs with ERN numbers (or dogs fully registered in Canada) can receive a Canadian Championship title. So, if you intend to go for the title, you might as well get the ERN and save the “Listing” Fees. If you enter as “Listed” and win, you have thirty (30) days after the show is over to “save” your points by getting your ERN application processed. The current cost of an ERN is $59.40 Canadian. Current Listing Fees are $8.40 Canadian. I believe the Listing Fee must be paid for each show entered. But, ERNs are issued quickly, and it may be the only way to “save” your points while you are applying for full registration. If your dog receives a Canadian championship using only an ERN, his/her title will not appear on the pedigree of any progeny, so full registration is really the way to go. The ERN, however, can be faxed in and, again, may be the only way to save your points, and/or save the listing fees, while you are going through the rather long process of full registration.
