EBMT Severe Aplastic Anaemia and Infectious Diseases Working Parties Bruno Rotoli Memorial Joint Educational Course 29 Sept – 1 Oct 2014, Naples, Italy Organisers: S. Cesaro, C. Dufour, A. Risitano EBMT Severe Aplastic Anaemia and Infectious Diseases Working Parties Bruno Rotoli Memorial Educational Course 29 Sept – 1 Oct 2014 Welcome address Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the EBMT we are very pleased to invite you to a Joint Educational Meeting of the Infectious Diseases and the Severe Aplastic Anaemia Working Parties. Following the success of the previous Joint Educational Meetings the program has been designed to cover the main aspects of pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases and of bone marrow failure syndromes. These topics will include the management of bacterial, fungal and viral infections in the setting of hematopoietic stem cell transplantations and bone marrow failure syndromes, with specific discussion on the most burning controversies in the field. For bone marrow failure syndromes, the topics will include the differential diagnosis of different acquired and inherited forms of aplastic anemia, the recent insights in their treatment, including transplant and non-transplant options and their specific procedures, as well as long-term outcome and possible complications. A dedicated section will deal with issues specific to inherited bone marrow failure syndromes; in addition, this year we decided to offer a half-day special spot on Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria, focusing on recent insights in its pathophysiology and treatments. The meeting includes two and half Educational Days: the first will be dedicated to Infectious Diseases and the third to Aplastic Anemia. In between, the second day will be dedicated to PNH and to the Working Party Business Meetings, during which relevant ongoing studies and new projects will be discussed. The Business Meetings are open to any participant who wishes to be informed about, and to participate actively in the Working Parties. In keeping with the scientific scope of the WPs and with the Educational purpose of the course, the meeting will give participants the opportunity to discuss and interact with all these experts during the sessions and the social events. The venue is the Castel dell’Ovo, in the heart of the bay of Naples. This unique setting combines the magnitude of history with the beauty of the Neapolitan coast. There are a range of hotels and accommodation options located conveniently for the castle, close to both the sea-front boulevard (the Neapolitan “ramblas”), and the old town with all its historical attractions (Royal palaces, Royal theater, Plebiscito square) – great places to get a taste of the real Naples. Registration will include all educational sessions and participation in the Working Party business meetings (which are in parallel), as well as participation in the social program. This stimulating scientific program will bring together the world’s leading experts in the field, who are actively contributing to improving our knowledge in the biology and in the clinic of infectious diseases and bone marrow failure syndromes. We look forward to seeing you in Naples for this unique and exciting course from the EBMT Infectious Diseases and Severe Aplastic Anemia Working Parties. This meeting is dedicated to the memory of our friend Bruno Rotoli, who actively contributed to the field of PNH and other marrow failures for more than 30 years, and pioneered hematology and bone marrow transplantation in Naples.
