Their say on BPLB
Bachelor of
“I am extremely proud that UUM has introduced the Bachelor of Philosophy, Law and Business
(BPLB) programme. This is the first undergraduate program of its kind in the nation, and is
an excellent interdisciplinary synthesis of the fundamental disciplines of law, business and
philosophy. There is no doubt in my mind that this new programme will provide our graduates
with a sound and broad spectrum of transferable knowledge and skills straddling the three
challenging disciplines. It will be a wonderful opportunity to gain the right mix of essential
global competencies required to be at the leading edge of graduate employability.”

Introduction
H
uman capital is an important aspect that is
being emphasized greatly by our current
government as human capital with academic
excellence has large impact on a country’s
economic growth and social stability. Thus as
a first step, a plan will be carried out so that
students who excel at secondary level would
be selected and trained as a skilled human
capital.
Outstanding students will also being given the
opportunity to join an academic programme
that focuses on intellectual concept, ability to
think and make observations and analytical
reasoning. The programme is a synthesis of
several branches of study such as history of
philosophy, philosophy of science, mathematics
and logic, combined with law and business.
Hence, Universiti Utara Malaysia feels that
there is a need to have an academic program
at undergraduate level to produce a more
focused individual who can be an effective
leader in all disciplines. This desire can be
achieved with the establishment of Bachelor
of Philosophy, Law and Business with Honours
(BPLB) (Hon.). The program is closely designed
to provide students with strong research skills.
