MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 28, 2015 FVRD and UFV to partner in environment, community planning Chilliwack, BC – The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further develop opportunities for students to work on environmental and community planning projects in the region. Since 2013, the FVRD has supported UFV in a number of student led projects in spatial planning and environmental research. Sharon Gaetz, Chair of the FVRD says, “We are very fortunate to have a leading edge educational facility like UFV in our community. Formalizing this partnership gives students real-life exposure to current local government planning issues and provides our staff with fresh, innovative ideas to explore in regional development.” The students are based in UFV’s Geography and Environment program, which has a strong focus on experiential and field-based learning. The FVRD provides over 100 local, regional and subregional services to over 280,000 residents in six member municipalities and eight electoral areas.
