Bulletin February 1, 2015 - Valley Family of Catholic Churches

Next Sunday’s Readings; 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time
VALLEY FAMILY OF CATHOLIC CHURCHES / www.vfocc.ca
First Reading Job 7:1-4, 6-7
The book of Job, uniquely in the Hebrew Scriptures, challenges one of the fundamental tenets of
Jewish wisdom, the proposition that if you live a righteous life, God will reward you.
Second Reading 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
Ancient Corinth was a sophisticated city where many teachers proclaimed new religious and
philosophical ideas. Paul, a stranger to the new Christian community there, has to establish his
credentials. The virtues of which he boasts are surprising.
Gospel Mark 1:21-28
This gospel remembers Jesus healing, driving out demons and preaching. It remembers Jesus' own
words giving emphasis to one of those purposes.

Jesus exercises power and authority over unclean spirits and they come out of
them. The greatest gift that we have in the fight against evil is the person of
Christ. We also pray in the great prayer Our Father. "To lead us not into
temptation but deliver us from the evil one." May we find strength and hope in
this prayer as we are also faced with temptation, trials and tribulation. God
bless!
