NUMBER 8 SEED
THE STARE DOWN:
The gulf in experience, power, size and sheer boxing skill is obvious with former lineal World Champion,
Rahman, amassing 60 fights in the heavyweight division against some of the most fearsome punchers in
history. Not to mention his near 30 kilo weight advantage and his height and reach advantage. However,
the statistics don’t account for heart, and Kiwi 8-man specialist Nansen has shown time and time again
his ability to dismiss the odds and overcome bigger more powerful men on the local stage. But this is the
big stage, and the Rocky story is fiction for good reason. If this rank underdog were to crack “The Rock”, it
would be a bigger upset than Rahman’s KO of Lennox Lewis all those years ago.

NUMBER 7 SEED
THE STARE DOWN:
Big Zo could quite easily be the top seed in this tournament with his relative youth, size and terrific punching power. He was on the verge of pushing into serious heavyweight contention when a recurrent eye injury
halted his run in 2008 and 2011. Having taken the time to heal, the Nashville native now has his sights set
on making a big statement at SUPER 8, starting with popular NZ wild card Brice Ritani-Coe. In the
inexperienced Ritani-Coe, however, he has a tougher task than statistics suggest. The affable kiwi has huge
power, a granite chin and a rapidly improving skill set. Word has it that Coe more than any other, is the
fighter the top seeds wanted to avoid in the first round. Expect Butler to use his speed and experience to
pick off the slower moving Coe, but if he chooses to stand and bang, then things might just get interesting.

NUMBER 6 SEED
THE STARE DOWN:
This is a battle of current and former Australian champions. Teak tough Sam is the classic Aussie battler,
with a relentless two-fisted walk forward style, favouring aggression over defense. That attitude may cost
him against New Zealand’s most accomplished active heavyweight. Even at 44 Meehan has enough acid
in his right hand to trouble the defensively dubious Sam. The speed of his jab will likely prove enough of a
range finder for Meehan to drop a patented right hand bomb. If he can’t find a way to get inside and free his
hands without the taller Meehan tying him up, Sam risks getting speared by the jab and hammered by the
right hand of the bigger man.

NUMBER 5 SEED
THE STARE DOWN:
There is no question the clash of these two UK 8-man titans is the toughest draw in the SUPER 8
quarterfinals. Both are former Commonwealth Champions and Prize Fighter Winners, but Sprott, by virtue of
his deeper experience and recent Prize Fighter victory, including a semi final win over Brian Minto, must rate
as a narrow favourite. But, these are two hard men, with genuine heavyweight punching power, intestinal
fortitude and an unrelenting will to win. Don’t look away for a
second, you might miss something special.
