DIRECTOR'S NOTES The 1977 debut of Chapter Two marked more than just the premiere of another script from one of American's most famous contemporary playwrights. For Simon, it was both an act of creative catharsis following the loss of his first wife, as well as a gift to second spouse, Marsha Mason. A number of critics and avid theatre patrons also noted that it was arguably the first time that Simon used personal experience for something beyond relatively superficial comedy. Through the lens of life in 2014, the script almost constitutes a period piece. It is inextricably and gloriously tied to a world without email and dating websites, let alone texting and social media. The entire construct of this show simply couldn't survive an encounter with Match.com or its ilk. As such, we have resisted the temptation to inject nearly 40 years of "progress," moving this production only slightly forward to 1984 to allow for a few special set additions and to avoid some egregious late 1970s fashion faux pas. With those facts and caveats in mind, we welcome you to this RCP production. Please sit back and enjoy Neil Simon's semi-autobiographical tale of grief driven by loss, hope enabled by serendipity, conflict fueled by jealousy, and love's ultimate triumph over adversity. WHO'S WHO IN THE CAST & BACKSTAGE JEFF BRESLOW (George Schneider) is thrilled to be performing in his first play at RCP, having previously appeared only in RCP musicals City of Angels as Lt. Munoz (WATCH Nomination) and Legally Blonde as Professor Callahan. Jeff's other prior roles include Vernon Hines in The Pajama Game (RMT), John Barrymore in I Hate Hamlet (VTC), Charles Guiteau in Assassins (KAT) and Actor in The Woman in Black (MP - WATCH Nomination). Much love to A, J, G, G, B, P, A & P LORI BROOKS (Jennie Malone) is delighted to be returning to RCP and is grateful to Adam and team for the opportunity to be a part of Chapter Two. Her last role at RCP was as Melissa in The Savannah Disputation (2013). Lori has played other roles with the Sterling Playmakers as a stepsister in Into the Woods (2013) and in Scared To Death (2011), as an actress/murderess with Stagecoach Theatre Company in Murder at the Old Brogue (2012), and Town Hall Murder (2011). Lori has had ensemble roles in The Visit with LTA (2010), Brigadoon with Sterling Playmakers (2010), and Christmas Revels with Washington Revels (2009). GREG LANG (Leo Schneider) is overjoyed to be making his first appearance with RCP. As a film actor, Greg developed a love for acting he never thought possible. In an attempt to step outside his comfort zone, Greg decided to try his hand at theatre and made his debut in 2012, as Fred Scrooge (A Christmas Carol) followed by James Appel (Red Herring) in 2013. Greg can also be seen later this year as President Roosevelt’s aide in the History Channel docu-series World Wars. Greg attributes his success in the theatre and on screen to his long time acting coach Cheryl Felicia Rhoads of Falls Church, VA. KRISTIN POLING (Faye Medwick) is thrilled to be making her RCP debut. Previous credits include: Night Must Fall (Olivia Grayne) and Our Country’s Good (Mary Brenham). When not on stage, Kristin can usually be found playing with her kids, running, or reading. She thanks Adam for inviting her into the RCP family, and the whole cast and crew for making this an utterly enjoyable experience. Special thanks to Gabriel, Marlowe, and Isla for their neverending support of her and her crazy ideas and for being the best team ever. ADAM KONOWE (Director) began directing more than two decades ago as a University of Rochester undergraduate under the tutelage of Mervyn Willis. His credits since then include Murder in Green Meadows, An Experiment with an Air Pump, Run for Your Wife, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Present Laughter, Much Ado About Nothing, The Alchemist, Lovers & Executioners, I Never Saw Another Butterfly, and Cat's-Paw. He is also an accomplished lighting designer, primarily for RCP and Germantown's BlackRock Center for the Arts. Adam's chronic theatre addiction is underwritten by a day job in advertising and PR at TMP Government, plus a night one as an adjunct professor of communications at American University (his graduate alma mater). He thanks his wife Yael and daughter Celia for $$ SCHOLARSHIPS $$ The Shelton Hall & Bruce Marson Memorial Scholarships for the Performing Arts Awarded every year to deserving High School Seniors pursuing the performing arts. For more information, visit www.restonplayers.org WHO'S WHO BACKSTAGE their enduring forbearance. Remember, if you enjoy this show half as much as we do, we're still enjoying it twice as much. BEA AND JERRY MORSE (Producers, Set Decoration) are producing their third RCP show and are dressing their 24th RCP set. For their work, Bea and Jerry have received seven WATCH nominations for Set Decoration and one WATCH nomination for Properties. They have received one WATCH Award for Set Decoration, Present Laughter, RCP 2003, also directed by Adam Konowe. Bea and Jerry are both now blissfully retired, but seem to have less time available than when they were working. In addition to increased travel and helping their son find a Minor League Baseball job (El Paso Chihuahuas - Fear The Ears!), Bea has started her own small redesign and home staging business, and Jerry serves on the RCP Board of Directors, as RCP’s WATCH Coordinator, and as a dedicated fan of the Washington Capitals, Washington Nationals and the Boston Red Sox. Our thanks and a tip of the cap to an extremely talented cast and crew. Enjoy the show! LAURA BAUGHMAN (Assistant Stage Manager, Crew Chief) is pleased to be backstage again at RCP. She has performed various backstage roles on 38 RCP shows since 2002, most recently on Les Miserables, Xanadu, A Tribute to the Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein & Andrew Lloyd Webber, and 33 Variations. Many thanks to the creative cast and crew for the opportunity to work with them on this show. By day, Laura is an IT analyst, and she is the caretaker of four cats who know a soft touch when they see one. WILLIAM CHRAPCYNSKI (Assistant Director, Sound Design) is delighted to be working on his sixth RCP show. Chapter Two, however, is the first time that he’s stepped into the shoes of the Assistant Director. William has worked in the past as a Sound Designer and Board Operator for shows such as 33 Variations, Moonlight and Magnolias, and Laughing Stock. William studied theater at Youngstown State, composition at Berklee, and audio engineering at Northern Virginia Community College. Outside of theater, he works as a Sound Designer, Musician, and Composer for video games and film with Pure Shift Productions. CAMERON KELLY (Lighting Design) is very excited to be designing for RCP’s Chapter Two by Neil Simon. His previous lighting design credits include Hansel & Gretel, Macbeth, Brigadoon, Tempest, Bye Bye Birdie, Mulan, Almost Maine & many others. He would like to thank his family & friends as well as Sarah, Adam, Bea and Jerry Morse and his partner in crime, Lukas. ROBERT KNIGHT (Stage Manager) has been the Stage Manager for many shows and really enjoys each one. He says it's not the play that makes the show, but the cast and crew having a good time together. The major news for Robert is that two weeks after this show he's getting married to Brandi, his best friend. MAGGIE MODIG (Set Design, Scenic Artist) has been designing/painting sets for RCP for 30+ years. The design/painting of RCP's Present Laughter (2003) and the design for RCP's Bus Stop (2008) won WATCH nominations. DC MetroTheater Arts named Maggie as a “2013 Favorite Designer” for RCP’s The Savannah Disputation. Other most recent design and/or scenic artist work includes: An Inspector Calls, The Nerd and Third (RLT 2013/2014); Abduction from the Seraglio, Bastien and Bastienne (IN Series 2013) and August: Osage County (RCP 2012). She has also designed/painted for ESP and MTA. Maggie is retired from a Federal career, lives in DC with her husband, Carl, and, when not traveling overseas, enjoys her second career as a set designer/scenic artist.
