20 years of climbing ...
I was blown towards my
fate with ROCK EMPIRE,
which I would not have
intentionally looked for,
with guidance from lots
of excellent people and
subsequent mingling of
common paths. Of course,
everything is affected by
the pursuit. So, it could not
have been otherwise that I met
with ROCK EMPIRE and the people
affiliated with it – it was simply my life
path. And the correct question is when
did it start? Deciphering the answer will require going into some
dusty archives. I will start chronologically. When I started climbing,
equipment was not offered in stores – there was almost nothing
available for climbing. It is true, that during this time, it was
difficult to find any essential goods you needed in stores, but that
is a story for another day. The passion to climb and look through
the surrounding world as if through the eyes of birds was so
strong, that every person who stuck their claws into the rocks was
compelled to help and create tools. In other words, in the evenings,
every climber would be working on something. It was a time of
Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and the results of those labors were often
very picturesque – similar to what was already being sold on the
other side of our western borders. Given the limitations, it was not
surprising that the harnesses were made from car seat belts or
fire hoses. Pseudo-climbing shoes were made from soccer cleats
with the cleats cut off and rubber glued to the soles. Original
cams and stoppers were works of human creativity and, in many
cases, works of art. Yes, I am going back more than twenty-five
years ago, when the idea of a firm like ROCK EMPIRE was only
a foggy thought in scattered local workshops. Eventually, the ideas
and stories of people in those workshops came together and gave
ROCK EMPIRE its life and breath.

manufacturing, I am proud to look back
at our accomplishments and history.

member of our ROCK EMPIRE
Climbing Team writes
better than I ever could,
ROCK EMPIRE started as
an idea by two climbers, who
were making harnesses and other
climbing equipment from everyday
materials like car seat belts and fire
hoses in their garages. The demand for
their equipment grew and the times and
government changed enough that they were able to start a firm,
Climbing, which quickly became Hudy Production, which is now
known as ROCK EMPIRE.
We, as a firm, are proud that our harnesses, slings, other textile
accessories, and cams and stoppers are still made with care here
in the Czech Republic and our full range of outdoor and climbing
equipment is sold in over 40 countries worldwide. We have grown
from 3 employees to over 50, and we are still based where
the company started: in the town of Benesov nad Ploucnici - close
to the Elbe River Valley´s sandstone rocks where our products were
first used and tested.
Even during those humble beginnings, feedback from climbers
of all levels and abilities was always important to us for creating
and improving our products. Today, our goals remain the same:
innovation, quality and maximum customer satisfaction. As we
look to the future, creating innovative and safe sport climbing gear
remains important to us, but equally valuable has been
the range of equipment we have developed for work at heights.
This equipment offers a high level of safety and has been well
received by industry. The basis for our interest in entering the work
at heights market was our know-how of climbing at heights and
mitigating risks for anyone climbing – for work or pleasure.
And looking forward, we plan for growth and innovation always
listening to the needs of our customers. Thank you for making
our 20 years possible and we look forward to continuing on our
next 20 years with you helping us create and innovate.

Edita is talented climber from
North Bohemia who started
climbing early in her childhood
in the Elbe Sandstone region.
Sport climbing has become her
life; she now spends a lot of time
climbing around the world. At
only 20 years old, she is already
a well- regarded figure in the
Czech climbing world. This year,
Edita is the Czech champion in
women´s lead climbing, climbed
an 8b+ route China Crisis and
8b/b+ route Land of Confusion,
and also climbed 7 routes of 7c+
on-sight.
„I started using ROCK
EMPIRE products when I was
8 years old. My parents bought
my first climbing harness from
ROCK EMPIRE, and it served me
well for a couple of years until
I grew out of it. Over time, after
climbing more and more,
I bought the lightest quickdraws
from ROCK EMPIRE, which
helped me climb a few nice onsight routes.
When I climb in gyms,
I use the ROCK EMPIRE harness
CALISTA, ROCK EMPIRE GUARD
and carabiner HMS MAGNUM
for belaying and ROCK EMPIRE
chalk. On the rocks, more gear
is needed, so, in addition to the
harness, I also use a set of ROCK
EMPIRE quickdraws, carabiners
and ROCK EMPIRE´s double axel
Axel cam and all types of slings.
When we go bouldering, I take
the ROCK EMPIRE bouldermat
STAGE and use their MONTANA
sleeping bag.“
For more than ten years, Ondra
has been devoting his time
to almost all the different
climbing disciplines. During
the winter, you can find him with
a bouldering crash pad on his
back or climbing somewhere
warm in the world. Over the
summer, you can meet him on
the sandstone cliffs in the Czech
Republic or in the Alps. In his
years of climbing, he has had
many experiences and climbed
many difficult routes from ones
on Czech sandstones to the big
walls of the Alps and beyond.
Ondra is versatile climber, who
has completed over 500 routes
greater than 8a, dozens of first
ascents in the Czech sandstones
Xa-XIb, and developed more
than 1500 bouldering routes in
northern Bohemia up to the 8A
difficulty.
„In recent years, I have started
using the full range of ROCK
EMPIRE equipment. For climbing
in gyms, I use the lightest ROCK
EMPIRE harness: SIRION. On the
rocks, I use ARKAS just because
I like it. When I go bouldering
to nearby Sněžník or Modřín,
I take the ROCK EMPIRE boulder
pad STAGE. Nowadays, most of
my experiences are with Edita
Vopatova. She is my life, climbing
and work partner, so we spend
a lot of time together. We both
use ROCK EMPIRE equipment
not only for climbing but
also in our climbing classes –
training for adults or children.
For the kids, we use the full body
harness, ZUNI.“
Iva is our future hope in
the sport of women´s climbing.
Since 2004, Iva has collected
eye- catching achievements not
only in the Czech Republic but
also internationally. This year,
she won the Czech Republic
Youth Cup.
„I most often use ROCK
EMPIRE´s CALISTA harness
for women both on the gym
walls and the rocks, and I use
the quickdraws and Crash Pad
STAGE when climbing on the
rocks. I am very satisfied with
them and grateful for ROCK
EMPIRE´s material support.
During the last two years,
I twice came in second place
in the Czech Republic´s sport
lead climbing for adults and
have placed first and second in
the Czech Republic´s sport lead
climbing for youth. I placed
eighth at the European Youth
Cup in Edinburgh, Scotland.
During this time, I also
successfully climbed my hardest
route to date on the rocks,
a 10-UIAA in the Moravian Karst
region.
So far, the greatest experience
with the ROCK EMPIRE team was
shooting a promotional film
on the rocks in the Elbe River
Valley, where I had to overcome
my fears, but I took home some
unforgettable moments with
all the ROCK EMPIRE team
members.“
„I will look at places where ROCK
EMPIRE and I were together.
Let me take your finger across
the globe from the tip of South
America. From there, we go to
Patagonia, across the Andes, up
to Yosemite, across to Grampian,
the Alps, around to Pamir Alai,
Hindu Kush, Karakoram, western
Himalayas, Garhwali Himalayas
and the central Himalayas.
And I cannot forget the tropical
areas, which do not have the
typical high mountains, but
a parade of rock outcroppings
such as in Thailand, Malaysia,
Cuba, south India and Laos.
Mountain climbing is
a special sport or, more aptly put,
an aberration. Joska Rakonsaj,
also known as Sir Pepik, once
wisely said, and I totally agree:
„Mountain climbing is just for
masochistic assholes.“ Concise
and clear. So now you ask, how
I implant that into my life on the
ground, or better yet, I do not
exactly know what my climbing
excesses exactly bring to my life
in the valley. The truth stays
the same: during climbing,
I certainly fill my keg to the
brim with satisfaction of my
selfishness and vanity and come
down to earth without the need
to satisfy those things.
I accept any challenge as
an excitingly attractive way to
motivate my brain. It is love at
first sight. I look at the hill and
I either like it or leave it. Then,
comes the scene of searching
for strategies: which way to get
there, what training I need, what
to take with me and with whom
to go, how to get the money and
time for the trip.“

RADEK LIENERTH
Tomáš and Ondra Beneš created
the Dolní Žleb Company which
represents a huge “production
plant” of sandstone routes with
a difficulty between VI and XIb.
Their prime climbs, which can
be counted in tens, strongly
influenced climbing in the Elbe
River Valley. Tomáš is not only
a great climber but also a great
climber with fiber to share. We
can find on his list uncountable
set of RP climbs with a difficulty
from Xa to XIb. He prefers quick
climbs and he likes to climb
routes in OS style. In this style he
has done a couple of Xb routes.
On limestone, he has climbed
8b and 8a in OS style. Big walls
represent a great challenge for
him because he is looking for
new experiences and practice.
Every year, Tomáš and Ondra try
to search for prime climbs in new
areas all over the world where
they can test their techniques
and fibers on very difficult
climbs.
„I am happiest when I am
doing what I enjoy. I love
climbing, and, the longer I climb,
the happier I am that I tried this
sport.
My wish for the future is
to let go of all my ambitions
and then finally fill my life
with the movement and joy of
climbing.“
New ROCK EMPIRE team member
Martin began climbing nearly
10 years ago. Gradually, his
passion became rock climbing
and, in recent years, he has
devoted almost all of his
free time to climbing. He has
searched for difficult routes
on the sandstones rocks in
the Czech Republic as well as
internationally. He has climbed
over 200 routes more difficult
than 8a. In the colder times of
the year, he explores the infinite
bouldering possibilities.
„I have not yet had the
opportunity to try most of the
ROCK EMPIRE products, but
I currently use SIRION men´s
harness, Crash pad STAGE and
quickdraws. I am very satisfied
with those products.

was founded, I have always had
some ROCK EMPIRE products
in my gear: whether it was a
lightweight summer sleeping
bag, carabiners, anchors or cams.
Since 2012 when I joined
the ROCK EMPIRE climbing
team, I have been using the
complete range of ROCK EMPIRE
gear including their climbing
harnesses and complete range
of hardware except for pitons.
New this year for me was using
the ROCK EMPIRE Machki
crampons, and I am pleased to
say that even on difficult hikes
like the Frendo Pillar or
the Innominata integral on

perfectly.
From my list of climbs in
2012, a few stand out as being
exceptional: 6 hours on
the north wall of the Matterhorn
via the route Schmit Brothers
or soloing the route Pouce
Caffe 6b+ on the south wall of
Aig. Du Pouce. Last winter, we
participated in a number of dry
tooling races and ice climbs.
Highlights from those include
a 15th place on the IWC in Saas
Fee and OS climbing on the route
Supervisor WI6+ in Bad Gastein.
In the summer, unfortunately,
I did not have too much personal
time for climbing, but led some
interesting tours as a guide
including Pilier Migot on Aig
Chardonet, Frendo on the north
wall of Midi and Innominata
Integral on Mont Blanc which is
not often a guided tour.“

S - SCREW LOCK
The manual screw lock on the gate is controlled simply using
one hand. Once the screw lock in the upper part of the carabiner
is rotated down onto the gate, the carabiner can be opened as
shown in the picture.
2T - TWIST LOCK
The twist lock system has an automatic lock and quick unlock. To
open the carabiner, do two independent movements as shown in
the picture.
3T - TRI-LOCK
The Tri-Lock system has an automatic lock and quick unlock. To
open the carabiner, three independent movements are needed as
shown in the picture.
