Watch for news of our Spring 2015 MiniGolf Fundraiser!
Library Construction
In 2013, we asked the community for input into how the library should allocate resources. Providing
better services to children and teens and making the library a more comfortable and casual gathering
place for patrons to read, use technology and comfortably chat with others were frequently mentioned.
In response, the Grayslake Library will use money left in original Construction Bond Fund and
generous gifts from the Friends of the Library and the Grayslake Library Foundation to make some
changes which will fulfill those requests without requiring any extra tax dollars.
In Youth Services, the Cesaroni Room will double in size, enabling all of the children’s programs
to take place there and freeing up the Epstein Rooms downstairs for Teens’ programs and use by
community groups. The Youth Services computer room will no longer be a closed-in area but will be
reconfigured for better use in instructional programs like LEGO® Robotics. In the front part of Youth
Services, we will close in the overlook to the lobby below, creating new space for the Youth Services
Workroom. The lobby will get a ceiling, better lighting and sound control and be rearranged to create a
more comfortable gathering space for patrons.
Drawings are being finalized, bidding will take place in early fall and work is expected to begin soon
after. During construction, the area on both floors around the lobby will be temporarily walled off but
we anticipate the library will remain open normal operating hours except for a day or so here and there.
Closing information will be posted in the library, on our website and on our Facebook page as soon as
we know of it. Construction photos will be posted on our website.
We know this will cause some disruption but the project will enable us to provide needed space within
the existing building without requiring any additional taxes. We will endeavor to make the process as
easy as possible for our patrons.
