Print out A postcard - one for each student.
Take in lengths of string or ribbon, about 1 metre long.
In class:

Students write a postcard and ‘send’ it to someone in the class.
! To make sure that every student gets a card, put the students in
pairs. Take in lengths of string or ribbon, about 1 metre long. If you
have twelve students, you need six pieces of string. Hold the lengths
of string in the middle. Ask each student to take hold of the end of a
piece of string. When everyone is holding the end of a piece of string,
you let go. Students then find who is on the other end of their string –
and they write a card to this person.
Have a few individuals read out the cards.
! Remember not to encourage questions yet – questions in the past
simple are introduced in the next step.
