COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course provides a multidisciplinary review and update on the diagnosis and management
of patients with breast carcinoma. The presentations will focus on recent diagnostic and
therapeutic advances, and emphasize their practical implications. Some of the lectures will include
discussion of the results of experimental studies to highlight recent progress in the understanding of breast
carcinoma and future directions for its treatment. The course faculty consists of a cadre of experts in the
diagnosis and treatment of breast carcinoma from Italy, European Cancer Centers and from Memorial
SloanKettering Cancer Center, United States of America.
Target Audience
The course is intended for physicians and nursing staff involved in the care of patients with breast
carcinoma and wish to broaden their knowledge of the disease.
Educational Objective
Upon completing this course, participants will:
- understand benefits and limitations of the latest techniques for the radiologic detection of
breast carcinoma;
- understand the principles underlying classification and staging of breast carcinoma and
their implications for patient care;
- understand the benefits and limitations of sentinel lymph node biopsy in the management
of patients with breast carcinoma;
- familiarize themselves with the latest concepts and options for diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast
carcinoma;
- understand the clinical relevance of recent advances in the basic research of breast cancer.
