KEY TRENDS

overall crude oil imports costs decreased by 2% in July 2016 compared to June 2016. Crude oil
¯ IEA
import costs in July 2016 were around 20% percent lower than a year earlier, but were 52% higher
¯
than the low point seen in February 2016.
The latest data shows moderate increases in gasoline and diesel prices in September 2016, largely
reverting the falls observed in August 2016. Prices are 22% and 15% higher, respectively, than the low
point in February 2016, which was preceded by almost eight consecutive months of falls in fuel prices.
2016, gasoline prices in North America were 50% lower than in Japan and 60% lower
¯ InthanSeptember
in Europe, a wider gap compared to the price differences seen over the last two years of 40%
and 50%, respectively. Similar trends can be observed in diesel prices in these three regions.
