Gagaku- the Oldest Music of Japan That Spans 1000 Years

Gagaku of Japan evolved its unique style and form by blending native Japanese songs
and dances with instrumental music and dances of the Asian continent. It was perfected in
the 10th century. Since then, Gagaku has preserved its ancient style and form and can
be experienced even today.
While discussing its performance styles, instruments, costumes and teaching methods,
Gagaku as well as the origin of the Asian music will be explored.
