About the Conference
In 2014, the new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the European
Union Horizon 2020 commenced. With an overall budget of about 75 billion Euro, it is one
of the biggest research programmes worldwide. A substantial part of the Horizon 2020
budget (roughly 13 billion Euro) goes into funding by the European Research Council.
With this conference „The European Research Council (ERC): Funding Opportunities“, the
Research Office within RUB’s department 1 would like to present the various ERC funding
schemes and encourage future proposals. Set up in 2007, the ERC has swiftly
established itself as a European Institution of highest international reputation. Its sole
criterion for funding is research excellence. The ERC is open to all research areas and
funds scientists from all career levels (min. two years after PhD).
The conference opens with a presentation by the National Contact Point ERC. After a
general outline of Horizon 2020, Ms. Stefanie Schelhowe will present the various ERC
funding schemes. Afterwards, Mr. Gavin Thomson of Helix Advisory Services will give
helpful background information and advice concerning the application process. HELIX
currently works on ERC proposals with 20 universities and HELIX clients have been
successful with almost 200 ERC grants. The conference concludes with a talk by Prof.
Stefan Huber. Mr. Huber is a successful RUB ERC Starting Grantee and will be available
for a peer exchange.
Participants who are currently preparing an application will have the opportunity to
discuss open questions in a one-on-one conversation with Mr. Thomson (only with
advance notification).
Target group
The conference is open to all RUB researchers. Talks will be held in English.

a first draft of your proposal until August 21 2016.
