Requirements for Participation:
o Register HERE no later than Friday, January 30th by 5pm
o Attend Mandatory Orientation
- Thursday, February 5th, 12:30pm-2:00pm at Serra Hall 209
o Submit T.B. Requirement
- All students need to have a negative TB clearance before beginning at
Montgomery.
TB tests are available through USD Health Services for $10 (credit card,
campus cash, or check only) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays
from 8:30am-3:00pm. Students MUST take the test BEFORE Orientation and
return to the Health Center 48 hours later for the test reading. Health Services
is located in Maher Hall Room 140 (behind Aromas).
*TB TEST RESULTS MUST BE TURNED IN TO YOUR SITE COORDINATOR

• USD Health Center TB Test Questionnaire

o Complete online Forms: http://www.ymca.org/volunteer.html (References will be your
professor and Ilana Lopez from the CASA office at USD)
o Email Ilana Lopez ([email protected]) with 3-4 sentences explaining previous
experience with youth.
o Complete Child Abuse Prevention Online Program (as soon as you turn the online
forms in, you’ll get an email response with a link to the program. It will probably take
you 45mins to complete it. Please, complete it as soon as possible as you won’t be able
to start volunteering until you have completed it. The site coordinator will contact you
once cleared and ready to start.)
Background Information: Montgomery Middle School is a Title 1 school where 100% of the
students receive free lunch. It is also a community rich with culture, with over 24 languages
spoken. In the past several years, Montgomery has strengthened their educational model
through innovative education programs, hiring highly skilled teachers, and partnering with
community organizations. Montgomery Homework Club is a program co-created by the YMCA,
Montgomery, and USD. The purpose is to provide a space where students can receive extra
support in completing homework and promote college-going culture through tutor-tutee
relationships.
Service-Learning Responsibilities/Activities: USD students will participate and mentor at an
after school program with elementary school children. Schedules will be coordinated during
orientation. USD students will learn about the Linda Vista community that surrounds USD by
building relationships and engaging with the youth at Montgomery.
